Yesterday, I went to my Army reserves unit. Now that school is my main focus, I kinda been neglecting the fact that I still gotta go during drill weekend! It's totally unlike me to be slacking like I've been with the Reserves. Most of my Army friends remember when I've gone in on days I wasn't supposed to be there! I may be losing the passion I once had for the Army. Now the hard part is gonna be finding something to replace it with... | | |
| What is the heck is the deal with this MySpace!?! Everybody I talk to says they're on it. This is so like me; I'm always the last person to catch on to trends. Like digital cameras. For the longest time I was using the 1-time use wind-ups (all you who were with me in Kuwait you know what I'm talking about!) It wasn't till I extended for another 6 months that I decided, "maybe a digital camera would be a good investment" WTF I was waiting for? I just catch on reeeeeally slowly, that's all it is. And so shall it be with MySpace. I am vehemently (very) resistant to trends, and this MySpace is just another trend. Perhaps, when the next great idea comes along and everyone jumps on that bandwagon, than I'll climb aboard the empty MySpace bus. | | |
| This is about my 4th week in school, and it's tough, all this thinking again, but I really like being back. It's great to be back amongst my peers, after a long isolation since returning from the Middle East in July. I'm still so unorganized with all my subject (I use one notebook for 2 subjects) which is no good if I'm going to keep track of 4 classes and all the assignments I'm getting. Some of my classes just drag out, like English where the teacher just repeats everything right out of the book without any improvisation of her own. And when she does get off the subject, she just rants on about her grand kids or something, which nobody in class particularly cares about. Probably cos it's a Saturday class, and they didn't get out of bed to be chatted up about something other than the already boring English subject. But some classes got me interested. And instead of being in a tired stupor barely keeping up with the words coming out of the teacher's mind, I participate and ask questions, and I don't even mind when I ask a question which I would otherwise have considered stupid. On top of this school, I'm also working Monday through Wednesday in a veteran's career center at the Villages at Cabrillo. It feels good to be helping a bunch of vets, some of whom have fallen on hard times. Instead of giving up on themselves, they are in the career center polishing their resumes, posting them online, making calls to potential employers. They are doing a lot towards improving their lives, and they never ask for anyone's sympathy or pity. It's makes me feel good when I'm able to help them. | | |
| Last night I went to dinner with some high school friends and this was the first time (that I can recall) I've ever "gone out" with friends. That really doesn't do no good for my social life to stay in the house so much. We went to a lobster place that was alright, but for the price I wouldn't go there again. Then we took a walk out on the Newport Pier, and then the pier got closed down cos apparantly some people were having sex on it? Anyways, I've got to take my friends to some of my places, as few as they may be. This is almost pathetic that I'm this excited about human interaction. But I enjoyed just being with friends again and hearing what was going on with their lives, and bringing up (and laughing at) moments we shared from the past. Wow, so this is was real people do... | | |
| So Veteran's Day was yesterday, and I hope they got their recognition. My dad got yesterday off from the Post Office (yeah for Federal Holidays!) And he bought a hat that's got Army on it. So anywhere we went to yesterday, all the people were thanking him and wishing a 'happy Vet's day.' And I'm standing next to him and saying, WTF, I"M THE VETERAN!!! I tell ya I get no respect | | |
